Horror Iconography

After much debate we decided to go down the road of a horror film but more specifically a slasher horror.

These are general items or concepts that are associated with horror films;

Dark gloomy lighting
Person in distress
Happy contrapetual music
Innocent little girls
Possesed items
Masked serial killer
Blood and gore.

General conventions. 

People become lost in a remote location with no sign of help.
A masked serial killer is on the loose, mainly targeting the vunrable.
An impending sense of doom that the characters can feel.
Power cuts at crucial times.
Someone is led astray investigating strange noises.
Falls at crucial times.
Jump scares.
Gloomy weather.

Opening sequences



Here we see an intro to a film that is set in an old abandoned factory of some sort, all the signs are there with amnious music playing and words and phrases written in what appears to be blood.

In the Zombieland intro it is chock full of blood, guts and plenty of gore which complement the slo-mo action sequences.

Aims of the film

Horror

After a long and heated debate we decided that the best idea was to plan out a horror film , specifically a zombie film. the general idea for the zombie film is linked directly with current events, we have chosen to call our virus Zebola which is zombies mixed with ebola. with the 3 minutes we have to make an impression we plan to show the audience 3 main things;

We firstly intend to show them a news broadcast that gives away the symptoms of the virus and tells us what it does and that its incurable, this will give a certain sense of severity to the situation and will make the audience a bit more shocked when we kill 2 characters in the first 3 minutes.

Secondly we want to be able to show three characters to the audience, we need to show them the worrying female character who is just concerned for her husbands and her well being, we want to show the dismissive male character who doesn't understand the gravity of the situation he and his partner are in (we could do this by giving the audience a sense of irony when he says "theres nothing to worry about" only to be yanked out of the door two minutes later by a zombie), and last but not least we want to show the zombie character (he doesn't have to be portrayed as a violent killing machine straight away, maybe we could show him as patient zero in a parallel action shot and show the audience how he turns into one of them)

Lastly we want to show the male character turning (extreme close up of his eyeballs changing maybe by dilating the pupils or by the yes glassing over) due to the bite he will receive during the struggle, we also want to show that the virus is spreading. (we can do this by killing 3 characters off in the space of 3 minutes and we show at the same time how easily its transferred and how dangerous it is by infecting one of the characters during the fight).

Psychological thriller

Begins with a couple breaking up,the girl(Phoebe) has instigated this.Josh(the boy) cries and begs for her back but she ignores him and walks out of the room.The couple have been dating for years(since they were 12),they are now 16.They've grown apart and while the Phoebe has blossomed and made new friends.However Josh is a outcast of society as he isolates himself.Theses changes in personality that have been discovered while growing up has caused multiple conflicts,escalating into the breakup.

After the breakup Josh becomes even more so of a recluse and a loner.Whilst the girl continues to have confidence in her self and her social circle expands.

The scene then transitions with the phrase 3 months later to Phoebe.She is in a new relationship and is very happy.This is shown in a medium close up of the couple walking home from the cinema (a date).The scene then zoom's out, where we see her ex boyfriend following home from a date.The boy then goes home and starts to plot the murder of his ex and her boyfriend.

Brief storyline for a horror film.

A couple become separated from their group during a walk in the woods, all is well and they are panicking yet. Night begins to fall and fear and hunger start to make them slightly worried. As the night wears on they struggle to get back into contact with the group. After the initial novelty of the situation wears off we see the couple become more aware of their surroundings and become highly scared. They then begin to notice traces of other people being around them and this makes them worried. They then hear some ominous chanting and rowdy noises from a clearing ahead. It appears they have interrupted a   satanic ritual of human sacrifice. They then have to flee through the woods after they become spotted by said people. They the are captured one by one and cruelly sacrificed to satan. 

General ideas and notes

Zombie Horror/Thriller

if we do a zombie movie, we could start of with a group walking through a baron and as a narrator tells the story of how we have reached this post apocalyptic state in the world (A cure for cancer turned humans into vile fat ores for the deadly NOX virus which shuts down the brain and gives them a major case of the munchies). *starvin like marvin' got da munchies*
it keeps cutting back to shots of the group slowly fighting there way through a zombie infested area whilst the narrator talks over clips of airports and super markets slowly being taken over by swarms of zombies. the narrator tells us that the first places to be hit were highly urban areas with survivors hold up in buildings or desperately trying to flee to rural areas.
then the narrator shows us a shot of scientists in a lab , they are then killed by zombies but one of the scientists drops a vial or a serum, this will play a key part in the story.
The rag tag band of 6 then fight there way through the crowded hospital and city streets to find the serum, we then see that all this is a plan that is being fought by a military officer to a band of 6 SAS soldiers that are earths last hope to save us all.
They then lock and load their gun and the screen fades to black.
