Making the title sequence in iMovie
Making the title sequence in iMovie
To make the title sequence i used the editorial and movie making software "iMovie", all in all the finished product was quite effective and was just right for our film because it has audio and visual effects that match the genre of our film.
First i made a new project and then defined the length that i wanted (12 seconds to fit into the allocated slot of time we had left over)
I then added some pieces of text that would zip across the screen, i used a font i sourced from "Dafont" called summon the executioner as it looks quite at home in a zombie apocalypse style film, it's covered in an unknown substance, its quite sharp and the overall finish is faded these qualities added together to create a really good font for our opening sequence.
We then added music to the sequence and the music we chose was called "Leo Rosevere - Moonlight And Roses" this particular music works quite well because its quite for boding and creates a dangerous or fearful atmosphere for the viewer. To do this we added the music to it and then stretched it out so that it would fit the title sequence, later we then stretched the music out so that it would fit the rest of our film and now its works very well. the overall atmosphere for the film is now quite dark and the music gives us a hint that something bad is about to happen.

Question 6 - What have you learned about technologies while constructing this project?
From this project I have learned a lot about a multitude of technology and how it can be used to benefit me and my end project, I have used many different pieces and types of technology in various different ways.
For starters I have used programmes at college such as iMovie and Final Cut Express to do the video editing and other post production effects like adding sound to the movie and editing it aswell so we could make it fit our film, adding other things like a fake news house style and a moving background of the Old Mill Lane College building helped to make it look professional. I also used word processing packages and presentation software such as Microsoft Powerpoint and celtx to make scripts and also did some small picture editing because its a lot harder to use images on blogger. There were benefits to using these editing softwares, such as iMovie comes free on all iMac's and final cut express allowed for everything including sound, images, templates for backgrounds and the actual film to be edited all in one place instead of having to separate them all and then bring them to a master document where they could be combined. Celtx also had some advantages in this area such as when it came to writing scripts you could get a really good layout by using a template instead of having to manually create the script aesthetic, powerpoint also helped with displaying lots of information in a way that was readable but would still look good as well, its also a software that's widely available and has equivalents across a bunch of different operating system which makes swapping between home use and college use very easy.
I also learned about how to use some online entities like royalty and copyright free music to make the sound in our project useable and I used this website Blogger to post about our experience and path we took while creating our film. The benefits to the royalty free music were that we could use some music that we liked without getting charged to show it or getting marked down because we didn't have the right copyright certificates however the downsides were a very prominent issue because you had to find a trustable website first that had been verified to provide good content and eve when you did find a song you liked they were few and far between so it could be hard to find the right ones that everyone would agree on. The benefits to blogger were that it was online so it could be accessed anywhere and it was free so we didn't have to spend money on downloading any software but the disadvantages were that it could be temperamental and could have some login issues, it also had a very weird sense of layout with images and text and could sometimes be a real pain to create a good enough standard of work.
I used hardware such as iMac computers to do all the more theory side of things like documenting my thought process and progression throughout the making of the film, I used all of the programmes on them and accessed the online entities through logging on to the internet on them. There were many advantages to the iMac's such as being able to access the internet quickly and use programs that wouldn't be available elsewhere in college, however these also came with disadvantages like sometimes we would not be able to connect to the internet and therefore couldn't get any blog work done without moving to somewhere else. The other piece of hardware I used was a Panasonic video camera and a metal tripod, these were used to film the scenes and it taught me a lot about using the correct lighting and making sure everything in scene should be there. The panasonic cameras had some really good attributes to them such as they were compatible with many different tripods, they were portable and came with a hard shell carry case, they were easy to use with no extra input needed to work them and they had enough battery life off of one charge for us to do a whole day of filming scenes for our project or filming interviews or the preliminary exercise. The only downside to this camera was that it was quite flimsy and could be broken if dropped meaning we had to handle it very carefully and some filming environments would not be a suitable option because of this.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Hammer Films productions is a British horror film company.
The genre of our film 'Z-bola' is horror. Therefore I feel our film production company should specialise in our chosen genre.
I also believe that the company should be British as the films production is British, using british actors and talent.
Hammer Films has achieved recent success with their films such as:
- Let Me In (2010)
- The Resident (2011)
- The Woman in Black (2012)
The target audience for horror films is often teens and adults due to their age certificate, this is similar to our film which is of a 15 age certificate.
In addition to these factors our film is of a 'Zombie' theme. Hammer Films is the distributor of the influential 'Zombie' film 'The Plague of the Zombies'. We hope by using this distributor our film will also inspire the production of future zombie films.
However by using this small British independent company our budget would be lower than if we used a 'big six' conglomerate such as Warner Bros. This could lead to less special effects. However I believe it would lead to a much more niche film.
Evaluation question 1
1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
Our mise-en-scene expressed the context of the film well as it was just an everyday house with two young adults returing from their jobs and such, we decided to use everyday clothes to help with the verisimilitude of the film because this could happen to anyone at any time and they didn't exactly prepare for the situation. The zombies outfit fit well within our context as it was just another person off of the streets which conveyed the whole surprise of the situation. We furthered our verisimilitude by using liquid latex and fake blood on the zombie to add to the usual techniques within the horror genre and make the zombie seem more convincing.

Question 3 - What kind of institute will distribute our film?
The type of institute that would distribute our film is more than likely to be an independent company, this is because a large media conglomerate will not distribute a small production film. The company is also more than likely to be a distributor of our genre if film, meaning that we will have to go and find a company that distributes horror films on a regular basis. This means that we are looking at something like "Hammer Films", who are a regular distributor of horror films, "Left Wing Films" and "Arrow Films" a company who distributes some of the best english talent.
Hammer films:
Hammer films specialise in distributing films like ours, they distriburte mainly indie horror
