1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
Our media product conveyed it was within the horror genre instantly with the foreboading news report and then the reaction shot showing imminent threat from the actor's reaction. We established a plot by intoducing the characters slowly as well as the news report being excellent at foreshadowing what could be a long plot. Our use of low key lighting helped paticularly well to convey the genre of the film with deliberate shading of the zombies' face which is very common within the horror films we drew inspiration from as this holds a certain element of certaincy about the character and adds suspense. the portion of the zombie's face in shadow can connote a hidden part of them and creates a element of mystery. This fits in with the zombie genre as this technique is used heavily in films such as Zombieland and 28 days later.
Our mise-en-scene expressed the context of the film well as it was just an everyday house with two young adults returing from their jobs and such, we decided to use everyday clothes to help with the verisimilitude of the film because this could happen to anyone at any time and they didn't exactly prepare for the situation. The zombies outfit fit well within our context as it was just another person off of the streets which conveyed the whole surprise of the situation. We furthered our verisimilitude by using liquid latex and fake blood on the zombie to add to the usual techniques within the horror genre and make the zombie seem more convincing.
